RECOVER  FORGOTTEN  WIRELESS  NETWORK  PASSWORD

This section is for those who have lost and/or forgotten the password for their wireless network (wireless internet connection). This usually happens when they have used the password supplied by their broadband supplier, which is normally located on the router's labelling or on a plastic card, and have since change that password and subsequently forgot it. A typical case of the changed password being "Easy To Remember" at the time, but now "Cannot for the life of me think what it is!".

To retrieve a wireless network (wireless internet connection) password begin by opening the Network Connections window - Right click on the START Menu button and select (left click on) the NETWORK CONNECTIONS menu-item to bring up (open) the Network Connections window (Fig 1.1).

When the Network Connections control panel window appears, which is actually a folder, you should see at least two network connection icons inside it. The Ethernet Cable connection (Ethernet) and the Wireless connection (WiFi). Click on the WIFI icon to select it and then click on the VIEW STATUS OF THIS CONNECTION button, which you might not see until you expand the row of buttons; by clicking on the FORWARD ARROWS (Expansion) button.

You can also use a DOS Command to reveal a particular wireless network's (wireless internet connection's) password - Open a DOS Command Prompt window with Administrator Rights, by right clicking on the START Menu button and selecting the COMMAND PROMPT (ADMIN) menu-item, and then type in the DOS Command netsh wlan show profile "Wireless Network NAME" key=clear | findstr Key before pressing the ENTER keyboard key. So in this example, because the wireless network name is Cairns, the DOS Command will be netsh wlan show profile "Cairns" key=clear | findstr Key.
